Signing in and your account

You sign in to the Scout Trails dashboard with an email address and a password. This page covers signing in and out, resetting a forgotten password, accepting an invitation, and your personal settings.

Password rules

Every password you choose, whether when accepting an invitation, resetting or changing it, must be:

  • At least 12 characters long.
  • No more than 72 bytes. Most letters, digits and symbols take one byte each; accented and non-Latin characters take more.

Signing in

  1. Go to https://ui.scoutmonitoring.io. If you aren’t signed in, you are taken to the Sign in page.
  2. Enter your Email and Password.
  3. Select Sign in.

If you opened a link to a specific dashboard page, you land on that page after signing in. Otherwise you land on Overview.

You sign in to the organization you used most recently. If you no longer belong to it, you sign in to another organization you belong to. To change organization afterwards, use Switch org in the organization menu. See Navigation.

The sign-in page shows one of these messages when sign-in fails:

MessageMeaning
Invalid email or password. The email address has no account, or the password is wrong.
That account is not a member of any organization. The account exists but belongs to no organization. Ask someone in your organization to invite you.
Could not sign in. Try again.Something went wrong on the server. Try again.

You stay signed in for up to seven days. After that, or once your session is ended, the dashboard returns you to the Sign in page.

Signing out

Open the account menu (the circle with your initials) and select Log out. This signs out the current browser only.

Changing or resetting your password signs you out of every other browser and device.

Resetting a forgotten password

  1. On the Sign in page, select Forgot password?.
  2. On Reset your password, enter your Email and select Send reset link.
  3. The page says that if an account exists for that address, a link was sent. It shows the same message whether or not the address has an account.
  4. Open the email titled Reset your Scout Trails password and select the link. Check your spam folder if it doesn’t arrive.
  5. On Choose a new password, enter a New password that follows the password rules, and select Save new password.

You are signed in and taken to Overview. Your old password stops working immediately, and every other browser and device signed in to your account is signed out.

A reset link:

  • Expires one hour after it is sent.
  • Works once. Using any reset link, or changing your password another way, makes every outstanding reset link for your account stop working. Requesting a second link doesn’t cancel the first until one of them is used.

When a link can’t be used, the page shows This reset link is invalid or has expired. Ask for a new one from the sign-in page., with links to Request a new reset link or sign in. If the account belongs to no organization, the page shows That account is not a member of any organization. Ask an administrator to invite it. and the password is not changed.

Accepting an invitation

Someone in your organization invites you by email address, and you receive an email with a link. You join the organization with the member role. See Inviting members for the inviter’s side.

An invitation link expires 24 hours after it is created. It works only for the address it was sent to.

If you don’t have an account

  1. Select the link in the invitation email. The Accept invitation page shows the invited address in a read-only Email field.
  2. Enter a Password that follows the password rules.
  3. Select Accept invitation.

Your account is created, you are signed in, and you land on Overview in the organization you joined.

If you already have an account

  1. Select the link in the invitation email. The page shows “You already have an account for” your address.
  2. Select Sign in to accept and sign in.
  3. You return to the Accept invitation page. Select Accept invitation.

If you are already signed in with the invited address when you open the link, the page skips straight to step 3. After accepting, you are switched to the organization you joined. Your other organizations stay available under Switch org.
